3rd Grade Spreitzer

February 6, 2012
Dear Third Grade Families,
Parent/Teacher conferences are optional this quarter. If you would like a conference, please return the conference request form to the office this week. You will be notified if your child’s teacher has requested a conference with you. Conferences will be held the week of February 13.
Visit the book fair February 13-16!
Half day of school Thursday, February 16th. Dismissal will be 11:00 a.m.
No School on Friday, February 17th or Monday February 20th.
[ This week students will be focusing on plural words. Students will complete pages 88-91, except the meaning strategy on page 91. Students should use the spelling book glossary to make the syllable divisions on page 90.
[ In English we are editing our narratives in the 3rd person. Our characters will include the creature we have created in art class. We are focusing on a clear beginning, middle and end, and including a problem and solution in the story.
[ In math, we are studying strategies used in solving division problems. We are practicing our multiplication facts daily!
[ MMF-Be sure your student is practicing orally each night followed by a one-minute timed written test. Have your student circle the last problem they finished when the one minute ended then continue to finish the top half of the sheet.
[ In science, we are discussing light and sound waves. We conducted an experiment with a slinky and rope to show the difference between the two.
[ In social studies, we are discovering our road to statehood. Students will make posters of key events and create a timeline of our history.
[ In religion, we are working on illustrating the Apostles’ Creed. We have made a coloring book of the prayer and students are going though the prayer, line by line, reflecting on the meaning then illustrating their thoughts.
[ ** Please join us at Mass! The students in Mrs. Host’s class have a special role in the Mass this week. All third graders will be singing in the choir. Hope to see you there!
[ In reading, we are continuing our unit on spiders. We are enjoying hearing all about farm life in the classic story, Charlotte’s Web, by A.A. Milne. We continue working on a variety of skills in this interesting unit.
Thank you for being so present in your child’s educational experience. You make a difference!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Host and Mrs. SpreitzerUnit 4, Lesson 21 Spelling, Third Grade
